We started off from Tupiza, Bolivia after crossing the border at 7 am. Jumped on a 4 day tour with Anton and Natalie, two travelers sharing our idea for adventure. This post covers the first 2 days.
Starting from about 3500 meters. we essentially just went up and up and up for the first few days. The road was ridiculous and I was in the front seat for all 4 days so I got a front row seat to see our driver Dennis´ skill at navegating the often one-lane road.
The ruins are from an old Spanish colony where they enslaved the locals and made them mine for silver….this is a recurring theme in Bolivia. We saw a lot of llamas and flamingos which make for an odd couple. It was nice to take a dip in some hot springs in front of the battalion of Toyota Land Cruisers, the vehicle of choice for these types of expeditions.
Finally there are some shots of Lago Colorado(red) and it`s a pretty self-explanatory name. The lake turns bright red from the algae in the lake reacting with the sun between about 10 and 4. Other than that, its completely white if there are clouds or little light. Weird.
