Colca Canyon was about 4 hours from Arequipa and came highly recommended. We decided to forego hiring a guide and instead set off on our own. Everything worked out well though the photos below don´t capture one of my favorite moments on the trip so far. Sitting in hot spring pools at our hostel in the bottom of the canyon while the sky was filled with stars and milky way was indescribable and certainly un-photographable. Our last day meant a 1,100 meter vertical ascent up out of there which was a good warm-up for Machu Piccu that tested each of us.
