Ollontaytambo – Sacred Valley

I´d heard great things about this town and I was glad we used it as our jump off point for Machu Piccu.  There´s enough stuff to do around Ollontay for 3 days, but we had to pick and choose.  We got there in the afternoon, the same day as all of the stuff from the previous post, and decided to go check out the ruins overlooking the city.  It was a SKETCHY hike up, but well worth it of course.  The next day we set off to find the  pre-incan Pumamarca ruins.  After a road to path to road to back of a pickup truck, we found the trail up.  The ruins themselves were unspectacular, but it was still a great way to spend 5 hours and the trail back brought us by some ancient terraces.  Unfortunately the rain kicked in when we got up to the top of the ruins and kind of spoiled the photo ops.  We finished the day at one of the official ruins right in town and it was simply ok.  There were a ton of people…our first time experiencing this and it did take away from the atmosphere we were used to.  Oh well!
